Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) technology was introduced already several years ago in the design of railway and mass transit vehicles. Sécheron's BMS contactors' range has evolved accordingly to match new requirements induced by PMSM motors, offering highly efficient contactors for application with frequency up to 400 Hz.

PMSM motors are now more and more commonly used for all types of traction vehicles, thanks to their key benefits for car builders (size, weight, efficiency, ….) and operators (reduced energy consumption,…) versus the usual 3-phase asynchronous Induction Motors (IM). If IM motors can be blocked through the traction inverter, PMSM Motors require systematically protection contactors to disconnect them from the traction inverter particularly in case of abnormal operating conditions.
To meet the particular requirements of applications, where the frequency can go up to 400 Hz and the voltage up to 3,800 Vrms, robust contactors are required for insulation, switching performances and EMC robustness, while being also flexible in terms of rated voltage and pole configurations. Sécheron’s BMS…08 meets all these conditions and has already been selected by several car builders to switch and protect thousands of PMSM Motors.
